Textile artist Donna Loraine Contract visits with guests during a live video
broadcast who were attending a reception held in her honor at
Weaving Southwest.
Ms. Contractor has been weaving tapestry for over 20 years.
"I want to show process," she says, "which usually gets a back seat
to product and share the trials and tribulations as well as the joy and
excitement of the creation of art out of a bunch of strings.
In a Taos Magazine article, Suzane Smith Arney writes, "Contract has
found her forte in weaving. She apprenticed with Victoria Rabinowe,
where she learned the mechanics of loom weaving and discovered her
love for the environment of loom yarn studio work. Initially, she
wove rugs. "My dad wanted a picture in his rug, so
I taught myself the dovetail tapestry technique, laying in color line by line."
These days she maintains a busy teaching schedule. She also
operates an apprenticeship program at her Nob Hill studio in
Albuquerque, and has won numerous awards and commissions.
